About Better Desk Habits

Better Desk Habits is about making everyday work clearer and easier to manage, whether you work in an office, remotely, or somewhere in between.

I’m Suraj Thakur, the founder and writer behind the site.

Who I Am

Before moving into remote work, freelancing, and online publishing, I spent around 10 years working in office-based jobs.

That means I’ve experienced both the structure of office work and the flexibility, along with the challenges, of managing more of my work remotely.

Today, my work involves writing, research, planning, site management, and the everyday admin that comes with working independently.

Why I Created Better Desk Habits

The setting changed when I moved away from office-based work, but many of the problems did not.

There were still competing priorities, interruptions, meetings, unfinished tasks, communication issues, and days when the workload did not fit neatly into the time available.

Remote work added a different layer. When you manage more of your own schedule, it can become easier to switch between too many things, let small tasks interrupt focused work, or allow the workday to stretch longer than it should.

I created Better Desk Habits to explore those everyday work problems in a clear and realistic way.

I don’t think every minute needs to be optimized, and I don’t think one productivity method works for everyone. Different jobs, teams, schedules, responsibilities, and ways of working need different approaches.

Sometimes a small change is enough. A clearer priority, a better way to organize incoming work, more protected time for something important, or a firmer boundary at the end of the day can make work easier without turning it into another complicated system.

How I Approach the Content

I try to begin with the problem the reader is actually trying to solve.

Before writing or updating an article, I look at the main question behind the topic, what the article should help someone understand or do, and where the advice may not fit as well.

When a claim depends on research, product information, or another fact that needs checking, I look for reliable sources such as original studies, official documentation, government websites, and established organizations. Where useful, those sources are linked within the article so readers can check the underlying information for themselves.

My own experience helps me understand many of the situations covered on Better Desk Habits, but I do not treat personal experience as universal evidence. A method that works well in one job, team, or work environment may not fit another, so I try to explain both where an approach may help and where its limitations matter.

When I write about apps or services, I check relevant details against official product information and documentation where possible. If I have direct experience with a tool, I may use that experience to add context, but I do not present something as firsthand testing unless I have actually used it.

I revisit articles when information changes, a source becomes outdated, or a topic can be explained more clearly.

If you notice something that appears inaccurate or out of date, please let me know through the Contact page so I can review it.
